Strelitizia (Bird of Paradise)
Strelitizia (Bird of Paradise)

Originally from South Africa, but now widely grown in sub-tropical climates.
This variety is the Strelitizia Reginae which grows to around 1 metre high with long, leathery, banana-like leaves and extraordinary long lasting flowers that are blue and orange.
Birds of paradise is the name given to this exotic flower, because of its obvious resemblance to a birds head.
This flower is traditionally associated with Madeira.
